Let’s Talk About Your Smile

Let’s Talk About Your Smile I’m Dr. Mitch Conditt of Mitch Conditt DDS. My office is located at 6316 Camp Bowie Blvd in Fort Worth. One of the best things about being a Fort Worth area general dentist is interacting with my patients. During initial dental consultations, I listen carefully to my patient’s short and long term dental goals.

I enjoy discussing options and developing effective treatment plans tailored specifically to each person. Some of my clients desire a total smile makeover. I explain in detail the treatments available including teeth whitening, dental veneers, clear braces, crown restoration, and dental implants.

If a client is nervous about undergoing treatment, we discuss oral conscious sedation. Oral conscious sedation, sometimes called oral sedation dentistry, is a great option for anxious patients. Dental visits do not have to be painful!

After the treatment has been completed, it is very gratifying for me to see my patient’s reaction to their new smile.

I never get tired of creating dramatic smile transformations for the best clients in Fort Worth!

If you have been considering a smile makeover, let’s talk about your smile. Call Mitch Conditt DDS at 817-737-5155 to schedule a cosmetic dentistry consultation.

The Mitch Conditt DDS Guide To Dental X-Rays

The Mitch Conditt DDS Guide To Dental X-Rays

Don’t know a periapical from a bitewing? Today’s Fort Worth cosmetic dentistry blog takes a look at dental x-rays.

Panoramic
If you have ever stood in a huge camera apparatus and struggled to stay motionless while an automated camera made one slow pass around your head, then you have had a panoramic x-ray taken of your mouth. These pictures help dentists see everything in one image: the complete upper and lower jaw. These are often taken during a patient’s first general dentistry visit to Mitch Conditt DDS. They are also very helpful for evaluating jaw injuries and seeing emerging teeth in children.

Bitewing
Bitewing x-rays help Dr. Conditt see what’s going on between teeth–something that is impossible with a visual exam. They also help your dentist evaluate the jaw bone.

Periapical
These are similar to bite wings but they can get a clearer picture of the tooth roots and bone. These are often used to help diagnose absences in the root of a tooth.

Full-Mouth Series
This is a combination of periapical and bitewing x-rays that gives a comprehensive picture of all the teeth and surrounding bone structure.

If you are a patient of Mitch Conditt DDS and are worried about the safety of dental x-rays, we invite you to discuss your concerns with our caring staff. We can explain all the precautions that we take to reduce radiation exposure and answer any questions you may have.

If you are pregnant and need a dental x-ray at Mitch Conditt DDS, it is important to let your dentist Dr. Mitch Conditt know this before x-rays are taken. X-rays are not necessarily dangerous for pregnant women, but they are often postponed until after delivery as a precaution. If you are pregnant but have a severe dental problem, call our office right away. We can be reached at 817-737-5155.

We hope you have learned a little bit about dental x-rays, one of Dr. Mitch Conditt’s indispensable tools in providing unsurpassed general and cosmetic dental services in Fort Worth. Check back often for more information about dentistry at Mitch Conditt DDS.

Lose the Fat and Improve Your Gums at the Same Time

Filed under: Dental Health,General Dentistry — Tags: , — Dynamic Dental Marketing @ 11:05 pm

ScienceDaily.com (Nov. 9, 2011) — Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine researchers found the human body is better at fighting gum disease when fat cells, which trigger inflammation, disappear.

Findings come from a pilot study of 31 obese people with gum disease. Half of the group with an average body mass index (BMI) of 39 had gastric bypass surgery and had fat cells from the abdomen removed. That half fared better than a control group of obese people with a BMI of 35 who also were treated for gum disease but did not have the gastric bypass surgery or fat removed.

What intrigued the researchers is that the majority of those who underwent surgery had a drop in their glucose levels after the procedure, a result that bodes well for overweight people predisposed to diabetes and insulin-related problems.

All study participants underwent nonsurgical periodontal treatments of scaling/root planing and oral hygiene instructions for home care. While both groups showed improvement, the surgery group did even better on the measures for periodontal attachment, bleeding, probing depths and plaque levels.

Inflammation that continues to brew in the body can have harmful effects over time, and inflammation from gum disease can erode bone and cause tooth loss. It can also cause breaks in the gums where harmful oral bacteria can enter the blood stream. Such bacteria have been linked to preterm birth, fetal death, heart disease, diabetes and arthritis, said Nabil Bissada, chair of the department of periodontics at Case Western Reserve School of Dental Medicine.

Alaska Dentist Performs Root Canal on Tiger

Filed under: General Dentistry — Tags: , — Dynamic Dental Marketing @ 8:15 pm

An Anchorage endodontist performed a root canal on a big tooth in a very big patient — a full-grown Siberian tiger earlier this month. In order to perform the surgery the zoo had to order some special instruments to accommodate the longer tooth, and even had to modify those during the root canal.

The root canal was necessary after Kunali fractured the tooth 4 or 5 years ago, likely when he hit a metal post.

“They’re not chewing on things that break their teeth easily, but they’re wrestling around,” Wilson said. “It takes some trauma to chip that big of a tooth.”

The fractured tooth didn’t seem to distress Kunali, Luiten said, but the root canal will give him long-term protection from infection.

Root canals for animals are somewhat common, with previous procedures performed at the zoo on a polar bear, the zoo’s other tiger, a wolverine, a wolf and two on a snow leopard.

Is Homemade Really Better?

Filed under: Dental Health,General Dentistry — Dynamic Dental Marketing @ 11:36 am

homemade-toothpaste-recipesPeople have begun to question products that they put in their bodies. Many consumers like to understand what each ingredient is in products they use on a daily basis, so it is only natural to have questions about the toothpaste you use (or should) at least twice a day. Phillip Schmidt of The Sacramento Bee posed the question whether conventional store-bought toothpaste is really better than the baking soda based homemade version?

Here are 3 homemade recipes and Schmidt’s review at the end.

Toothpaste Recipe #1 -

Plain baking soda
Mix powder with a bit of water to create a paste.

Experience:

Extremely salty, gritty, and generally not so nice. Leaves the mouth feeling clean but adds a faintly metallic finish to the teeth.

Toothpaste Recipe #2 –

1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. fine sea salt
1 drop essential oil (spearmint, peppermint, orange, cinnamon, etc.)

Mix ingredients with a small amount of water to form a thick paste.

Experience: Generally better than plain baking soda but significantly saltier. Peppermint oil adds some mintiness and a slight tingle on the lips.

Toothpaste Recipe #3

2 tbsp. dried lemon or orange rind
1/4 cup baking soda
2 tsp. fine salt

Grind the rinds to a fine powder in a food processor. Add baking soda and salt and blend thoroughly. Store as a dry mix, applying small amount to a wet toothbrush for each brushing.

Experience: The lemon imparts a faint but pleasant flavor and noticeably counters the saltiness and of the baking soda and salt. Same slightly metallic finish as with the plain baking soda toothpaste.

After testing the formulas above he went back to his regular brand name toothpaste to see how it compared. The results were mixed – the mouth feel was far superior with the commercial pastes, however the flavor was described as ‘saccharine-sweet’. At the end of the experiment he says he will be switching to a less sweet commercial toothpaste – but will not be maintaining his pearly whites with a homemade version!

Keeping Your Toothbrush Clean So Your Mouth Stays Healthy

Filed under: Dental Health,General Dentistry — Tags: , , — Dynamic Dental Marketing @ 2:36 pm

We all know we’re supposed to brush at least twice daily, but did you know that you should also be keeping your toothbrush clean? Toothbrushes can harbor tons of bacteria without proper care, which can enter your body – potentially exposing you to problematic bacteria. Take these simple steps to ensure your oral health.

  • Replace Your Toothbrush Regularly – You should replace your toothbrush every three months or when your bristles begin to show wear and tear. Replacing when necessary helps keep your toothbrush clean and your mouth happy!
  • Keep Your Toothbrush Dry – Do not cover your toothbrush or store it in a place where it’s not able to dry completely after each brushing. A damp device encourages bacteria growth.
  • Get Rid of Your Toothbrush After Illness – When you are sick, it’s critical that you replace your toothbrush or toothbrush head. The bacteria from your mouth during illness can stay on your toothbrush and re-enter your body.
  • Consider Cleaning Solutions – There are cleaning solutions available that tout bacterial removal, although some experts disagree about the effectiveness of these products.

Keep your mouth extra happy by making regular visits to your favorite dentist – Dr. Conditt.

New Relaxation Technology Introduced

Filed under: Cosmetic Dentistry,General Dentistry — Dynamic Dental Marketing @ 3:23 pm

NuCalm
Dr. Conditt is excited to introduce a new technology to the practice – NuCalm – a revolutionary system that allows you to enjoy your dental experience without drugs or side effects. NuCalm can help reduce/eliminate dental anxiety, leaving those who participate (with or without anxiety) completely refreshed and rejuvenated when they leave the dental chair.

First you chew on tablets that are designed to relax you by counteracting adrenaline. Next, stimulant patches are placed behind each ear to facilitate the relaxation response. Noise dampening headphones are used to deliver soothing music and then black-out glasses help maintain the NuCalm state of relaxation.

With NuCalm, you’re in the dental chair receiving treatment, but you’re so relaxed you will not be aware of or focused on the dentistry. Patients liken it to being at the spa because you are in such a place of deep relaxation.

Your first treatment with NuCalm is complimentary, so talk to Dr. Conditt or the rest of the staff about your relaxation treatment.
