Beware Of An Acidic Diet In Fort Worth

Fort Worth tooth strengthening Most Fort Worth folks don’t often think of a tooth as a body part that fluctuates in strength. Our teeth seem to have a steady hardness and dependably grind food whenever we need them. However, teeth are dynamic organisms with chemical processes that occur continually.

The protective enamel that covers the softer interior is made of minerals. Enamel demineralizes (loses some of its density) when coming in contact with acids. Saliva can dilute and neutralize acid so the tooth can remineralize (re-harden). This process isn’t instantaneous, however. While the enamel is soft, the tooth is vulnerable to losing a microscopic outer layer of enamel. If the erosion continues, the much softer dentin is exposed. Eventually, the tooth may need to be extracted.

At Mitch Conditt DDS, we are noticing an increase in cases of serious acid erosion. It is apparent that the typical Fort Worth diet is becoming more acidic.

The list of acidic foods may surprise you. They include eggs, gravy, asparagus, chicken, cottage cheese, honey, fish, ham, butter, sour cream, aged cheese, and yogurt with active cultures. Generally, food with a high sugar or artificial sweetener content are highly acidic.

Now let’s talk about drinks. You probably already know that soda pop and wine are not good for your teeth or your dental hygiene. Fort Worth teens that sip soda all day can have acid erosion while their young teeth should be at their strongest. In addition to soda, energy drinks are very popular and Fort Worth cosmetic dentistry professionals are noticing the effects on their dental patients’ tooth enamel.

If you drink soda or energy drinks often, you may want to drink water or chew sugarless gum after downing a can. Stimulating saliva production can speed up the remineralization process.

If your teeth have become more sensitive in general, or in response to hot or cold foods or beverages, you may have acid erosion. To schedule an examination with Dr. Conditt at Mitch Conditt DDS, call 817-737-5155 today.

We are a full-service cosmetic and general dentistry office with hundreds of satisfied clients in Fort Worth and the surrounding areas. We are located at 6316 Camp Bowie Blvd in Fort Worth. We are working to raise awareness of the dental health dangers of acid erosion. We hope you have benefited from this Mitch Conditt DDS blog article and look forward to your visit.

The Mitch Conditt DDS Guide To Dental X-Rays

The Mitch Conditt DDS Guide To Dental X-Rays

Don’t know a periapical from a bitewing? Today’s Fort Worth cosmetic dentistry blog takes a look at dental x-rays.

Panoramic
If you have ever stood in a huge camera apparatus and struggled to stay motionless while an automated camera made one slow pass around your head, then you have had a panoramic x-ray taken of your mouth. These pictures help dentists see everything in one image: the complete upper and lower jaw. These are often taken during a patient’s first general dentistry visit to Mitch Conditt DDS. They are also very helpful for evaluating jaw injuries and seeing emerging teeth in children.

Bitewing
Bitewing x-rays help Dr. Conditt see what’s going on between teeth–something that is impossible with a visual exam. They also help your dentist evaluate the jaw bone.

Periapical
These are similar to bite wings but they can get a clearer picture of the tooth roots and bone. These are often used to help diagnose absences in the root of a tooth.

Full-Mouth Series
This is a combination of periapical and bitewing x-rays that gives a comprehensive picture of all the teeth and surrounding bone structure.

If you are a patient of Mitch Conditt DDS and are worried about the safety of dental x-rays, we invite you to discuss your concerns with our caring staff. We can explain all the precautions that we take to reduce radiation exposure and answer any questions you may have.

If you are pregnant and need a dental x-ray at Mitch Conditt DDS, it is important to let your dentist Dr. Mitch Conditt know this before x-rays are taken. X-rays are not necessarily dangerous for pregnant women, but they are often postponed until after delivery as a precaution. If you are pregnant but have a severe dental problem, call our office right away. We can be reached at 817-737-5155.

We hope you have learned a little bit about dental x-rays, one of Dr. Mitch Conditt’s indispensable tools in providing unsurpassed general and cosmetic dental services in Fort Worth. Check back often for more information about dentistry at Mitch Conditt DDS.

Sedation Dentistry in Fort Worth

Sedation Dentistry in Fort Worth Picture the following scenario: You are stretched out in a chair at your Fort Worth dentist office holding a remote as you try to tune into your favorite radio station. A woman clips a paper bib around your neck. Someone switches on a bright overhead light and you see latex-gloved hands moving toward your open mouth. You close your eyes.

As you read this, does your heart start to race? Are your palms sweaty?

If so, you may be a good candidate for sedation dentistry. Oral sedation benefits nervous dental patients in Fort Worth every day. Moderate sedation is used for all types of Fort Worth dental procedures such as root canals, dental implants, and wisdom teeth removal. If you are considering extensive restorative or cosmetic dentistry work, conscious sedation may allow your Fort Worth dentist to complete multiple procedures in a single visit.

Don’t let fear prevent you from getting the dental treatment you need. Schedule a visit with Dr. Mitch Conditt to learn about conscious sedation dentistry.

Periodontal Disease in Fort Worth

Periodontal Disease in TexasPeriodontal disease (also known as gum disease) in Fort Worth is more common than you might think, and can be cured with varying degrees of treatment depending on the severity.

What is periodontal disease? According to the article on Wikipedia, periodontal disease is ‘the name of a collection of inflammatory diseases affecting the tissues that surround and support the teeth.’

Periodontal disease, more commonly called ‘gum disease’, is an inflammation or infection of the gums. Periodontal disease can be very painful in some extreme conditions, and can limit your ability to eat normally. In some cases, periodontal disease can affect your smile, and can create cosmetic dentistry concerns.

If left untreated, periodontal disease can cause irreversible damage. When caught early and treated, periodontal disease can be little more than an inconvenience. However the best policy is to practice good dental hygiene to keep periodontal disease at bay.

One of the best ways to avoid periodontal disease is to get a regular dental check up at your local Fort Worth general dentist.

Give us a call at 817-737-5155 to schedule your next dental checkup; we look forward to seeing you.

Tooth Whitening Dentistry In Fort Worth

Tooth Whitening Dentistry In Fort Worth

Tooth whitening has really taken off in Fort Worth. It has become a popular dental procedure and can provide excellent results if done properly.

There are a lot of options when it comes to tooth whitening. You can choose from a selection of over-the-counter options that you can get at your local pharmacy, or can go to a professional to get a complete tooth bleaching solution.

It is a good idea to consult with your dentist before a tooth whitening, regardless of whether you choose to use an over-the-counter product. Your dentist will be able to help you understand the results you can expect, and can help recommend a product that will work for you.

There are many variables when it comes to tooth whitening. The color of your teeth at the beginning of your treatment will make a difference for your ending result. Different tooth whitening treatments will each produce a different result. Your Fort Worth cosmetic dentist has experience with tooth coloration and the types of treatments available.

In many cases, your Fort Worth general dentist will be able to provide you with a tooth whitening solution that you can take home with you. In some cases, your dentist may recommend a professional treatment that is done at the dentist’s office.

Professional tooth whitening can produce dramatic results in a single treatment, and is often done over a few treatments.

Tooth whitening is less expensive than it was in the earlier days of tooth whitening technology. Today, tooth whitening treatments are very affordable, and don’t take the time they used to.

If you are interested in a tooth whitening consultation in the Fort Worth area, please call Mitch Conditt DDS and make an appointment to see me. I will be happy to give you a check up, assess your tooth color, and recommend tooth whitening treatments that may be right for you.

Dental Sealants

Fort Worth Cosmetic Dentistry Dental sealants are a thin coat of clear resin that is applied to the biting surfaces of teeth, usually the rear molars. The back teeth are more prone to cavities because is difficult to reach them with a tooth brush and the surfaces contain pits and grooves that easily trap bacteria. It is hard for many adults to clean their back molars and almost impossible for our young Fort Worth children.

Dental sealants fill in the pits and grooves on the rear molars to create a smooth surface. Fort Worth general dentistry professionals most often recommend sealants for children’s permanent back teeth, though sometimes they are used for adults, too.

Fort Worth parents may not realize how quickly a cavity can form in a young child’s mouth. Many local kids that we see develop cavities even before they start kindergarten! It is vital that our local parents start regular dental visits early. The American Dental Association advises that a child’s initial dental exam take place soon after the first tooth erupts, but no later than the toddler’s first birthday.

Dental sealants protect teeth that have no decay (primary prevention) and also prevent further decay progression and the need for dental fillings in teeth that show very early signs of disease (secondary prevention).

At Mitch Conditt DDS, we take special care of our Fort Worth dental clients. We want each patient’s dental visits to be pleasant and painless so they will never develop a fear of the dentist. We advise parents on the specific dental issues associated with each stage of childhood. Ask us about fluoride, the pure power mouthguard, and clear braces.

I am Dr. Mitch Conditt of Mitch Conditt DDS. I don’t believe that cavities are unavoidable. Call my office at 817-737-5155 to schedule a Fort Worth dental exam and deep teeth cleaning.

I provide comprehensive restorative and cosmetic dentistry for Fort Worth people of all ages. My office is located at 6316 Camp Bowie Blvd in Fort Worth. You can learn more about my practice at http://www.drmitchconditt.com/dr-conditt-and-team.html.

What Does A Missing Tooth Say About You?

Fort Worth Mini-Implants When you meet someone in Fort Worth who is missing a front tooth, what does that say to you? Do you wonder if they were in an accident? Do you automatically start making assumptions about their income, level of education and overall physical health?

Though it is extremely unfair, we are often judged (and misjudged) by our appearance. Even if a person is impeccably dressed and groomed, a missing front tooth detracts from the overall pleasing impression.

Here is a personal story from a woman who lost a tooth:

I lost my job and along with it my dental insurance, then a month later, one of my front teeth. It has been very hard to find work…. and I know the missing tooth has cost me several jobs.”

A missing tooth can be a big deal.

Dental implants not only restore oral health, they restore self-confidence. Dental implants are a permanent solution for missing teeth. Studies have shown that after more than 20 years, the vast majority of dental implants placed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons continue to function at peak performance. If properly cared for, dental implants can last a lifetime.

Dental implants are one of the procedures we routinely perform at Mitch Conditt DDS to help our Fort Worth clients regain the beautiful smile they once had. Not all cosmetic dental procedures are as extreme as tooth implants. There are many minimally-invasive remedies for unattractive smiles.

Porcelain veneers instantly provide a perfect, gleaming tooth surface for Fort Worth clients with broken or discolored teeth. Tooth whitening is a quick and affordable dentistry procedure in Fort Worth that achieves dramatic results without requiring the removal of any tooth structure. Call Mitch Conditt DDS at 817-737-5155 for more information about smile design and full mouth reconstruction.
