Oral DNA Testing in Fort Worth, TX

Oral DNA Testing

At our office, we use clinical laboratory services from OralDNA Labs® to ensure we are giving our patients the best oral health information possible. OralDNA Labs® is a specialty diagnostics company designed to provide reliable, definitive and cost effective clinical tests that guide oral health professionals in detecting and prognosing disease at an earlier, more treatable stage.

OralDNA Labs helps dental professionals and their patients use salivary diagnostics to obtain precise evidence about periodontal disease and oral HPV, allowing more accurate diagnosis and, in the case of periodontal disease, more effective treatment.  There are several ways OralDNA labs can help our Fort Worth dental office and our patients diagnose and treat common oral health conditions; salivary diagnostic studies to diagnose presence and severity of periodontal disease, genetic susceptibility of periodontal disease, and detection of the oral HPV virus.

The MyPerioPath® salivary diagnostic test identifies the type and concentration of specific perio-pathogenic bacteria that are known to cause periodontal disease. MyPerioPath® helps support our hygienist and doctor with better risk assessment and personalized treatment options for more predictable outcomes. Often specific antibiotics that are bacteria compatible are recommended during the course of treatment for periodontal disease based on the test results.

MyPerioID® PST®

The MyPerioID® PST® test identifies individual genetic susceptibility to periodontal disease and enables the clinician to establish which patients are at increased risk for more severe periodontal infections due to an exaggerated immune response.  According to the American Academy of Periontology, up to 30% of the general population may be genetically susceptible to gum disease. Despite aggressive oral care habits, these people may be six times more likely to develop periodontal disease.

OraRisk® HPV

The OraRisk® HPV test is a non-invasive, easy-to-use screening tool to identify the type(s) of oral HPV, a mucosal viral infection that could potentially lead to oral cancer. OraRisk® HPV enables Doctor Conditt and our hygienist to establish increased risk for oral cancer and determine appropriate referral and monitoring conditions.  Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common virus groups in the world. According to the Centers for Disease Control, at least 20 million people in the United States are infected with HPV and there are approximately 6 million new cases each year.  Oral HPV is a manifestation of the HPV virus in the mouth, and is primarily found in the oropharyngeal complex. Specific types of oral HPV are now considered to be separate and serious risk factor for developing oral cancers. Early detection and identification of the presence or absence of oral HPV is important, as early oral HPV infections do not typically cause any clinical signs or symptoms.
